After the nasty fight with the Ghouls…..
A quick party vote was taken (with comments like…. we can’t fight) and a sneaky approach was adopted. This may have been necessitated by the sudden freezing of Eddard. Actually he stood behind the zombies looking slightly up and to the left! Safe and sound.
Looking for volunteers (those who could be invisible, silent and see in the dark) eventually Reginald realised that he alone possessed the skill set necessary (Sly, Kerreth, Thraim and Cyric voted our “guild master” should do it). Before setting off Cyric cast Sacred Guardian which would allow the cleric to have visions of anything nasty attacking our beloved guild master.
Reginald started by scouting to the left (first rule), he passed two doors, at the end of the corridoor saw a room with a non-rusted sword lying on the floor (after all 1300 years underwater you expect rust). Reginald without going into the room returned to us and then proceeded to head down the right corridor, this time passing another two doors and finding a room at the end with two piles of seaweed (with glints of coin underneath). Again without entering the room, returned to the party. After a brief discussion corridor one was chosen.
Being experienced thieves, we expected everything to be a trap, hence Kerreth volunteered to lead the party into the room with Thraim following while looking for traps. This resulted in Kerreth walking straight into a Gelatinous Cube…. luckly she made her save (or would have been paralysed and sucked into cube). The party backed off…. Thraim held his ground and cast Flame Blade, Cyric threw his Fire Trapped Oil (doing 16 points of damage). Both Sly and Kerreth blasted it with Magic Missiles. Then again in the next round. This caused the cube to melt without Thraim even attacking with the Flame Blade! Giggle, giggle.
The longsword was claimed by Kerreth and a little treasure was gathered. The party then proceeded to the Seaweed room. Everyone expected another ambush and were not disappointed. The two mounds of Seaweed merged into two creatures. Thraim angry at impotency previously attacked with his still working Flame Blade doing massive damage to one. Cyric cast Undead Alacrity on the Zombies (turning them from the Brain Dead type into Night of Living Dead type) and ordered them to attack. Sly used his extreme new power and Polymorphed one into a worm. The remaining creature was then cut down by the Zombies and Thraim. Again a little treasure was collected.
A doorway was then picked to investigate…. Thraim broke through the door to discover an old guard room with 6 undead guards (unknown type) who threw spears at him like he was a British soldier in the Zulu wars. Again Magic Missiles and Fire Trapped Oil was the order of the day. Then close combat ensued. The zombies backing up Thraim and taking hits. When Kerreth ran out of useful magic she drew her new “magic” sword, failed a fear save, and ran around the corner…. giggle, giggle. Eventually the undead were killed (no monies), a secret door was found in the room, then through another secret door at the end of a corridor into the main complex.
Again Reginald scouted ahead, the only thing he found was some killed Seal creatures in the middle (many jokes about clubbing them to death) with one still just alive. The party then investigated, the dying creature did the death speach thing warning us of the “living statues” and giving us one key thing (a quartz arrow 2.5" long). Although it clearly hadn’t died as the body had gone the next time the party passed by…. Doors were tried (cannot open without two keys). So the Statue (with the large greatsword) at the back of the complex was investigated.
Golem Zombies, Thraim and Cyric attacked in close combat, Kerreth and Sly blasted with Magic Missiles and Reginald maneuvered for a back stab. The Golem swatted Thraim for massive damage. Round two as the Golem don’t like kiddy punchers it continued to attack Thraim, who decided to use Parry or die approach. Kerreth drew her safe feeling sword and ran away again. Reginald succeeded in backstabing but found the attack did nothing. Meanwhile Sly decided to use his Wand of Wonder and stuff everyone up…. YIP fire ball. Kama hit Sly as he failed his save again, destroyed his wand and burnt ALL his clothes off again. Zombies died (there goes meat shield) both Thraim and Cyric saved but took damage and Reginald’s magic resistant robes worked….. oh yeah spells don’t work on Golems. This round it cast Slow on Thraim (-4 AC, To Hit, +2 initative).
Over the next two rounds Cyric bad rolls were not used up by Zombies so did nothing and Thraim took more of a beating (parry at -4 is not easy). Finally Thraim announced he could not take any more and said he would death or cake it (attack). Initative…. Golem, Thraim then Cyric. Golem hits and killed Thraim, Cyric seeing his brother fall, contemplated running like a bitch, decided to throw one more heroic attack…..Two hits Golem sinks to one knee in a dramatic death sequence.
Thraim Dead…. looting time …. wait… Scroll of Raise Dead dam. Cyric called forth the magestic power of Mask ….. Live Brother ….. and didn’t blow up thanks to a Magic Potion. At this point it was noted Cyric, Thraim and Sly were very badly hurt. Reginald the lucky and Kerreth the coward were not. Rest was called for. Where? Kerreth cast Knock on the Secret Door which had sealed behind us. Rest, healing and new useful spells learned.
Now rested DOOM needs to investigate the magicial symbol behind where the Golem stood.
