As Members of DOOM relaxed in their pub, the Sated Spectre, recounting a various winter snow activities, a grubby faced urchin came running in to deliver a note. The Note simply stated that we have Jukk, signed with a sign of the beholder. A variety of shoulder’s were shrugged and puzzled looks exchanged, as a debate as to wheather or not to we even care took place. With general apathy it was even investigated that he was actually missing from his usual seat and hadn’t been seen for several days. With nothing else on the horizon, DOOM decided to tool up travel through the sewers and visit Mr B’s nest. Boredom caused the rescue mission to precede, not any altruistic motives.
Interestingly all the traps had been left untended and abandoned, and only the old man was sitting inside the clerk’s ledger book room. As Thraim, Sir Lanceabit and Kerreth entered to discover what the note was all about, the unmistakable smell of death began to permeate throughout the chamber. Sly, Reginald and Cyric waited outside poking their noses in. Kerreth as spokeswoman asked what’s up?
The old man said simply that they wanted the sword (pointing at Eddard’s rapier Widowmaker hanging on Kerreth’s belt.) It then indicated that he didn’t work for the floating potato and his master wanted the sword (Myrkul was mentioned). Being MASSIVELY selfish and backed by the awesome might of DOOM Kerreth simply said “no”.
With the word “No” still hanging in the air, the face of the old man began to blur to become that of a jackal headed denizen of some outer plane. Simultaneously two secret doors opened and two insect headed denizens and a large bull headed denizen (with a very large Axe) entered. Spells began to be cast by everybody. Sir Lanceabit strode forward to meet the Bull Headed denizen and the other two fiends cast Hold Person spells. Only Kerreth (after failing two magic resistance rolls and two saves) froze while the others shrugged off this pitiful attack.
Thraim uttered a Recitation spell greatly assisting his own party but was thoroughly ignored by all the denizens and the Jackal type’s magic resistance. Cyric selfishly cast Protection from Evil while Sly attempted to Polymonth Other the Jackel denizen (which ignored it). The bull headed denizen’s magical attack was interrupted by Sir Lanceabit’s constant hacking and parrying. Thraim moved to engage the Jackal only to surprise it by actually hitting its armour class (-8 AC) interrupting its spell. One insect headed foot-soldier denizen attacked Reginald who had to watch with disapointment as his Polymonth Other spell penetrated the foot-soldiers magic resistance only to be foiled by the denizen shaking off its effects. Reginald sucked in his breath and drew Mortifier II. The other insect headed foot-soldier denizen began to assist its boss.
More ineffectual spells were cast by Sly while Cyric eventually moved to assist Reginald (after ensuring a denizen was not attacking him). The tide of the battle swung back towards DOOM as Sir Lanceabit slew the Bull headed denizen, deflecting its Axe easily with his shield but took some scratches in return from the Insect headed foot-soldier. The silly denizen even attempted a Flame Strike only to be struck mightily in return (Sir Lanceabit getting a mere +10 save bonus).
The denizen attacking Cyric and Reginald cast a Burning Hands slightly singing Reginald but leaving Cyrics unhurt due to MASK’s unholy protection. It also attempted to touch Reginald, but his robes absorbed all its magical energy. Sly, standing just outside the room, continued to cast his most offensive spells with mixed results as the magical resistance continued to thwart his magical powers. Kerreth stayed frozen in the corner with her magical protections and abilities pointless. Sir Lanceabit slew the demonic foot-soldier while partially deflecting its claws and moved to assist Thraim.
Thraim had battled bravely, shrugging off its magical attacks as it attempted to get near Kerreth. Even wounding it three times with Typus the mace. However, it started to resort to its claws and bite, scratching and chewing on Thraim. AsSir Lanceabit announced his arrival with a thwack, the fox-deizen knew its number was up and Teleported away. The remaining demonic foot-soldier was finished off by Sir Lanceabit quickly as it had been heavily wounded by Reginald, dented by Cyric and Magic Missile from Sly (disrupting its Mirror Image).
All was silent as the two a joining secret corridors and rooms were quickly investigated for danger. The Battle count revealed. Sir Lanceabit had killed all denizens and had made the remaining fiend flee; everyone else had scored a 0 for accomplishments. A large supply of spell books were recovered and Mr B’s journals and ledgers for a careful examination. Inside a cupboard the bodies of Jukk and the elderly clerk was found. Some knick knacks were found in the area before it had been effectively cleared out. The Bull Headed denizen had dropped its magical axe +2 that requires a large creature to wield. This might be taken as a large trophy for the Sated Spectre fire mantle place. Magical investigation through a Comprehend Languages spell will hopefully reveal most of Mr B’s resources in the city. Let the dismantling and general slaughter of his pitiful guild begin.
