This episode starts like any other, at The Sated Spectre enjoying the fruits of our labour, arguing what colour to make the carpet of DOOMs underground lair…. Reginald favoured Dark Blue and Sir Lanceabit dark red (to hide the blood)… The party did agree to put money toward the refurbishment…. Cyric already paid for the removal of the Banite alters, and re-concretion to Mask….. then like a spider in the bath (unwanted and just annoying) who should apear but our kleptomaniac mage “friend” wanting a moon dog pelt from a warehouse just around the corner…
Groan….. no payment just work, there had to be a catch.
After a quick piece of information gathering it was determined the moon dog pelt was currently owned by the proprietor of a Rope Making business. The difference this time round is that DOOM agreed to let Cyric infiltrate the establishment, which he did disguised as a labourer (Yuk… manual labour, Cyric). After overhearing the owner talk about a secret meeting that night, Cyric returned to the party (after getting paid the 2cp owed for the work he did) with the info.
DOOM armed up, cast mass Invisibilities and infiltrated the Rope shop while Cyric remained outside. After locking up the owner slid his desk over to reveal a secret passage down below (narrowly missing Reginald who happened to be on the other side of the desk. The owner then used powerful magic to turn the back door into a Jar. Seeing this Reginald and Thraim took the opportunity climb down the stairs into a hidden t-shaped corridor with a curtain at then end. Once the owner had opened the back door he also climbed down the ladder, narrowly missing the two thieves and pushed his way through the curtain, quietly followed by both Reginald and Thraim….. into a 30′×30′ square room with a large hexigram on the floor.
Back in the Rope factory the ramaining party sat around waiting for something to happen. A couple of minutes later two normal looking peasents arrived adjusted medallions around their necks and went down the secret ladder. This time Sly followed them. Over the period of 15-20 minutes about 24 cultists arrived. Unlucky 25th, the stagler, running to catch up, didn’t make it to the back door as he was KOed (then killed, and turned into a zombie) by Cyric, who took his medallion, stole his face using the Hat of Disguise. Cyric then joined the cultists in a ceremony. Finally Sir Lanceabit brought up the rear.
Reginald and Thraim were hidden in the main room, Cyric disquised as a cultist, Sir Lanceabit, Kerreth and Sly, invisible and listening at the curtain. The factory owner revealed himself to be the cult leader, wearing the Moon Dog pelt as a cloak, spouted something about “now is our time……” the rest of the speech was interrupted by coughing as Thraim released a Cloud Kill, kill 24 cultists….. at this point the last living cultist and Reginald sprinted from the room…
Kerreth seeing a cultist burst through the curtain, surprised the cultist, performed a trip manoeuvre, strangely the cultist nimbly evaded the trip and “jumped” up the ladder. Mean while Sly, dodged to the side, prepared to cast Polymonth Other but couldn’t as the cultist didn’t stop and say “oh”. Reginald followed the cultist up the ladder. The cult leader then burst through the curtain, Sir Lanceabit smashed him with his sword on the way past, but couldn’t stop him reaching the ladder. It then became apparent why everyone ran as the Cloud Kill crept into the entrance way, damaging the DOOM members. At this point two Gragoyles attacked, Sly tried to get past but couldn’t, Sir Lanceabit attacked, killing one and Kerreth killed the other.
At the top of the stairs, both Reginald and Cyric (who had now morphed back into himself) waited for the leader, backstabbed, killing him, sending his body back down the ladder hole…. SPLAT. Cyric summoned a Dust Devil to push the Cloud Kill away from DOOM. The leader was then searched (finding an amulet and Scroll of Gate). As DOOM approached the curtain, evil laughter could be herd. The curtain was thrown back revealing Thraim with his arms outstreched spinning in circles…. oh well.
The only thing remaining was to steal the cult leaders money and set up Reginald’s henchman, Mannindraill, as the Rope Factory owner. So endith the night….. Thraim insanely evil, Moon Dog Cloak recovered and Kerreth moaning she does not want to help waterdeep any more.
